Improving cable quality requires strict control of the raw material quality for cables.

For manufacturing enterprises, the top priority is to strengthen quality control over the raw materials used in cable production. Raw materials are the foundation of any product—so if you want to ensure product quality, you must address issues right at the source of production. The quality of copper conductors, aluminum conductors, and cable compounds directly determines the performance characteristics of wire and cable products.

In recent years, the cable market has been plagued by chaos—substandard products being passed off as high-quality ones, leading to price instability. In my view, to fundamentally address this issue, we must first tackle it at the source: by improving the quality of raw materials.

For manufacturing enterprises, the top priority is to strengthen quality control over the raw materials used in cable production. Raw materials are the foundation of any product—so if you want to ensure product quality, you must start at the very source of production. The quality of copper conductors, aluminum conductors, and cable compounds directly determines the performance characteristics of wire and cable products. It is recommended that companies conduct tests on several critical properties of these raw materials when purchasing them—for instance, the DC resistance of copper conductors, as well as the mechanical and dielectric strength properties of cable compounds—thus guaranteeing that the purchased materials meet stringent quality standards. Upon arrival at the factory, the company’s internal raw material quality inspection department should rigorously test each batch of materials, ensuring that no single-minded focus on cost-cutting leads to neglecting the essential quality of raw inputs.

Secondly, manufacturing enterprises should strengthen their quality management and enhance their learning in process technologies. To improve the quality of wire and cable products, companies should first implement comprehensive quality management and technical training programs, familiarizing employees with relevant production, manufacturing, and testing standards. By carefully considering all relevant factors, enterprises can establish a robust, integrated quality management and control system. Additionally, they must develop effective mechanisms to address any issues identified during the wire and cable manufacturing process. It’s crucial to refine quality documentation, create detailed process cards, and ensure these cards are used exclusively and correctly to prevent errors. Finally, employees should be rigorously trained to follow quality guidelines closely, fostering a strong awareness of quality control throughout the organization.

Once again, manufacturing enterprises must strengthen their quality inspection and control efforts. Companies should place high priority on routine tests, sampling inspections, and outgoing product tests, while also establishing and refining comprehensive inspection procedures. Regular, systematic checks should be conducted on raw materials, semi-finished products, and finished goods—especially ensuring full coverage of both routine tests and 100% outgoing inspections. Additionally, any nonconforming samples must be promptly and effectively reworked or repaired. The goal is to identify defects early, analyze root causes in a timely manner, swiftly adjust production processes, and enhance management practices—ultimately preventing substandard products from leaving the factory.

For raw and auxiliary material enterprises, it is essential to strengthen cooperation with cable companies, reinforce research into critical, cutting-edge, and foundational technologies that ensure quality, and leverage technological innovation to accelerate industrial restructuring and enhance the quality of both products and the industry as a whole. At the same time, we must consciously resist illegal and non-compliant practices, actively promote the establishment of a robust product quality supervision system for wires and cables, and contribute positively to driving greater momentum within the wire and cable industry.
